A training for potential Media Analysts in European Union Election Observation Missions (EU EOMs) was held by EODS, in Brussels, from 10 – 13 October.
The activity gathered 10 participants with relevant experience in the fields of election observation, electoral technical assistance, media analysis and journalism. They came from different EU Member States, including Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Sweden and Spain.
The four-day training was facilitated by two instructors with significant experience in Media Monitoring methodology developed over the last 20 years in EU and in ODIHR (Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights) Election Observation Missions (EOMs). Officials from the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI) and the European External Action Service (EEAS) were also present and briefed the trainees on the relevance and impact of the EOMs.
The training offered the opportunity to introduce the participants to topics relevant to the work of a Media Analyst in an EU EOM, with a focus on the role and responsibilities, tools and media monitoring methodology and drafting EU EOM reports and recommendations.
