The media analyst training intended to develop election observation practitioners capabilities in the field of media analysis and monitoring, enabling them to participate in EU EOM Core Teams.
During the course, participants were introduced to topics relevant to the work of a media analyst in an EU election observation mission, with a special emphasis on international obligation, commitments and good practice related to elections and in particular to freedom of expression, media content analysis related to election campaign, drafting EU EOM reports and recommendations. An important part of the training focused on media monitoring methodologies, and on the management of media monitoring data.
Since in some missions, the positions of media analyst and press officers are combined, the training also prepared participants to deal with EU EOMs media relations
The training combined presentations, discussions and case studies. In addition to this, there were reporting exercises aimed at developing participants’ skills in line with EU EOM reporting requirements.
